Lee Strobel’s “Case for Christ”
WOW! I have been reading Lee Strobel’s “The Case for Christ” and I’m so impressed. This book (i believe is just one in a whole series of books he’s written) is sharp, well witten and fun to read. I found myself actually laughing time and again. The whole book is written from Strobel’s perspective as a former criminal law journalist and a non-christian. When his wife found Jesus and he was pleasanly surprised in her positive changes he went on the search for evidence he could relate to to figure out just what was behind his wife’s transfomation.
His journey takes him all over the country talking to scholars about topics and evidence that will build (or demolish) the Case for Christ. Through his talks with these people he remains unbiased, even playing “devils advocate” at times.
Even if you’re a believer already, this book is such an invaluable resource to help build strength in your conviction.
If you’re not a christian and you’ve been looking for more answers this book provides a VERY compelling argument for Christ.
If you fit into neither of those categories I think you should read it just because so much of it is based on history and it’s interesting to read about a culture that we have so little information about.

You might not know this, but my Grandfather (whom I feel very close to - aka “Grandaddy”) went through the very same thing in a sense. He actually laid everything on the line at one point and made my Grandmother (aka “Grandma”) make a decision (on a very serious level) between him and Jesus. Grandaddy said, when Grandma chose Jesus over him, it was a turning point. He began to delve into WHY this guy he’d heard about but knew little of made such a difference for her.
I’m not exactly sure what his determination has been, except to say that he openly and honestly understands that the “mystery” of God is just that, and he has expressed recently that he and I see eye-to-eye on a myriad of topics. His concern for me was that, at my age, I am seeing things as he does at his age… that scares him. I told him that we all “stand on the shoulders of giants.” He acquiesced, but also reiterated that he is uncomfortable with being in a position where he has no way to offer advice. I reassured him that God has everything under control, and he agreed.
I ought to look into the writings of this guy you’ve recommended.

I never knew that story. (I don’t have to honor of being so close to granddaddy to hear all of his stories or advice) It’s good to hear though. Definately check it out. (I’d lend you my copy but the shipping would be silly)
I believe whole-heartedly that when put in a situation like that (of a VERY tough choice) that is when God works through us most. It’s really phenomenal what a person can choose to do when a higher power is at work in our soul.

That’s a weird little “Pingback”…. wtf is that about?
Anyway(s):
The MAC: thanks for sharing. grandaddy ended up buying the book for us to read, and he dropped it off for me tonight… when I get done with it, I’ll send it back on to him. I’ll also expand on this topic once I’m finished with it.

After reading the first chapter, I have to say the style is easy to follow and engaging. The content is pretty cool in regard to the factual, historical representation of Christ. The journalistic “oh-yeah-what-about” argumentative tone helps in driving the points home. Thanks for pointing me to this MAC!

you are OH SO welcome Jamz. I’m glad you’ve liked it. I read most of it in a day, well in a sitting. It really is an easy read (I guess journalists are taught to write at a fourth graders reading level.) So it makes it easy for anyone to understand. Once I finish the slew of books that I purchased on my last trip to the bookstore I will definately purchase any other books he’s written on such topics.
