Govt. to Regulate US Churches
In the wake of recent political boondoggles brought on by high-profile church leaders such as Barak Obama pastor Rev. Jeremiah Wright, vocal McCain supporter Rev. John Hagee, and most recently the Rev. Michael Pfleger, the U.S. Senate has enacted* a moratorium on political speech happening within the walls of U.S. churches, citing Separation of Church and State as the motivating factor.
Up in arms are the leaders of all the major religious organizations in America. Crying foul, fearing total breakdown of the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution, the Rev. Mojave Senegal of the Third Holy Sacrosanct Temple of the Burning Midnight Oil church in Elevator Creek, MI released this statement, echoing the sentiment of religious leaders across the country:
The utter disregard and blatant disconcern for the desires of the peoples and will of the forefathers of this great nation of the United States … by its governmental entities and other political leadership is sanctimoniously and egregiously disrespectful to the American peoples in regard to every principle of free speech upheld by the public citizenry.
Making waves among media giants is another effect of this brash movement, evoking concerns about the Freedom of Speech as it applies to the dissemination of information to the public. Quelling these fears, as one U.S. Senator stated, on condition of anonymity because he is not authorized to speak publicly on the matter, “Don’t worry, this is a temporary measure, which only applies to religious and other faith-based organizations. News organizations are still free to say whatever they want, as long as it fits into our agenda.”
Public outrage has been essentially non-evident as major broadcast networks, on hearing the virtual immunity ascribed to them, are not running this development on the air. As this information quietly permeates the blogosphere, men in black suits and dark sunglasses arrive at the location of bloggers who attempt to divulge this information and als;k[]\\\\\\\\\\\

It would surprise me immensely. Indeed I venture to say that it is impossible that the US Senate could even debate such an issue!

You may be right. Inasmuch as the “church” has been established long before our governments, I think they may just be “untouchable.”
